Around the Academy:

Wigan legend Denis Betts talks passing, catching and holding the ball

Hi, I'm Denis Betts, former Great Britain international and current assistant coach at Wigan Warriors.

I'm going to show you the proper way to play the ball after a tackle.

The play the ball is the most unique skill to rugby league, so it's important you get it right.

Watch my masterclass

Here's a few tips from me:

  • Try to finish on your elbow and knees
  • This is the best position to play the ball quickly
  • Sweep your leg around and touch the ball to play it
  • Snap your knees to your chest if you land on your belly

So that's my guide to playing the ball, now it's up to you to Give it a Go!
