Great rival - New Zealand captain Irene van Dyke
It may seem a long way off, but the 2006 Commonwealth Games will be our main focus for the next two years. We've got a lot of new faces in the team, so we're looking to give them the opportunity to develop and get the whole team working well together. We feel we've got a point to prove after losing our title at last year's World Netball Championships in Jamaica. We went into the tournament as champions, but had to settle for second this time after losing to New Zealand in the final. It was a horrible feeling, and one that most of us hadn't experienced with Australia before.
In my seven years with the team I've won two Commonwealth Games gold medals and a World Championship. Before the World Championships, Australia had been the number one team in the world for over a decade, so to lose that title was a massive disappointment. I now have to say that Australia are number two in the world - and that's something I hate. That's why we'll work as hard as we can over the next few years to get that number one position back. We're playing New Zealand a few times in the coming year so it will be a good chance to get a bit of revenge. I guess you could call it a grudge match - but then matches between Australia and New Zealand usually are!
