Hockey sticks can be dangerous if not used properly
Your behaviour during training and competition adds a great deal to your own and other peoples' safety.
Common sense is usually enough to tell you when your behaviour is likely to be harmful. But there are some basic things you can do to make sure you play safe.
Rules are there to make sure that sport is fair and safe for everyone. Breaking the rules increases the risk of injury.
Some sports equipment (such as hockey sticks) can become dangerous if they are not used within the rules and their purposes. Swinging a hockey stick above your shoulder is an example of the inappropriate use of equipment.
While you are competing and training, sometimes equipment gets worn or damaged. Always check your equipment before you use it. If you think it may be damaged or worn, tell your teacher or coach.
A player may be hurt and needs urgent treatment. If you play on, others may have stopped playing and they could be hurt.
Objects like drink cans, bottles and studs can be left lying around your playing area from a previous match. Make sure they are put in the right place - the bin!
