Guide to the Cooper run
So, if I want to do the Cooper test what do I need?

You require the following:

  • 400 metre track - marked every 100m
  • Stop watch
  • A partner

What do I do with the results?

Firstly, you can look at the distance you have covered and look where it puts you on the Cooper test table below.

This gives you an idea of your fitness compared to your friends.

More importantly, the test monitors the progress you are making in training.

Next time you do the test, you can see how much further you have gone.

This will tell you and your coach how effective the training methods have been.

  • What is it?
    Test yourself

    Average distances (metres)
    Boys 13-14 years: 2,300m
    Girls 13-14yrs: 1,750m
    Boys 15-16yrs: 2,400m
    Girls 15-16yrs: 1,850m
