Learn to beat your opponent like England ace Jonty Clarke

Hi, I'm England player Jonty Clarke and I'm going to show you one of the most important skills in hockey - how to beat your opponent.

Watch my masterclass:

As an attacker the last thing you want is someone standing in between you and a goalscoring opportunity.

It's great to be able to leave a defender trailing in your wake.

There are quite a few tricks you can use to outfox your opposite number.

I'll talk you through two of the most effective ones.

  • The dummy
  • The lift

Watch my masterclass in full and you'll soon be wrong-footing your opponents.

Now get out there and give it a go.

    Good luck!

When you're practicing these skills, start off slowly so you perfect your technique. Then do it faster. The faster you go, the harder it is for the defender to stop you.

    Did you know
Your opponent's weaker side is usually the reverse stick side.
    Exploit this when you're attacking
