Why does my ball do that?
Around the Academy:

Shank

The ball flies violently right off the heel of the club face where it meets the shaft, a spot known as the hosel.

Checklist

  • Aim: Face may be a little open
  • Grip: Hands twisted a bit too far left causing the face to open
  • Ball position: Might be too far back
  • Stance: Not normally a factor
  • Body alignment: Feet and shoulders aiming to far left
  • Posture: Weight is usually positioned too much on the heels and too erect
  • Swing: It is likely you are rolling your wrists as you take the clubhead away from the ball

As you follow through you probably swung outside the target line resulting in the shaft of the club hitting the ball and it firing off to the right.
