Take part in a yips survey
Around the Academy:

Bernhard Langer
Langer has suffered from the yips since his twenties
Do you suffer from the yips in sport?

If you don't know what they are then you've probably never been bothered by them.

The yips are a psychological condition that can ruin your technique whether it's in golf, tennis or even sports like darts or snooker.

Some people suffer from an uncontrollable movement in their technique, like a jerk when putting. Others find it hard not to feel anxious when they can't carry out a skill as normal.

No-one really knows why this happens, other than it is a reaction to the stress of the situation.

But it happens to the best sports people in the world. European Ryder Cup captain Bernhard Langer has suffered from the yips for years.

If you get the yips there is help at hand. Research is being done into how they occur and what can be done to fix them at Sheffield Hallam University.

You can be part of the research by completing an online survey. It doesn't take long but if you are under 16 you must get permission from your parent/guardian.

Good luck.
