Joanne
Michelle who? Joanne lets rip with her Callaway driver
Welcome to the first round of Academy kit testing.

Each month we get you to test the latest in sports equipment which you can keep for your efforts.

This month Joanne, Marc and Jamie got to whack with the latest golf drivers.

Joanne
Joanne gets set

Joanne, 15, from Essex tested a Callaway Big Bertha driver.

I don't normally use a driver but I got used to the Big Bertha really quickly.

The head was quite big without being one of those massive clubs so it gave me confidence.

My drives were going quite straight and even when I didn't connect properly it was still going a good distance.

The club looked really nice and other people were coming up to me and telling me that too.

My dad had a go and was impressed but he can keep his hands off!

This is going straight in my golf bag.

Star rating: 5/5.

Marc
Nice head cover Marc!

Marc, 14, from Gloucestershire tested a TaylorMade 580 Xtra Distance driver.

I didn't expect it to be so good but I was whacking the ball out of the driving range.

I usually hit the ball 210 yards but with this I was clearing 250 yards.

It was quite easy to hit. The club was light and more forgiving than drivers I have used.

The club has got a nice look and the head cover is cool too.

Star rating: Also 5/5.

Jamie
Jamie looks the part with his driver

Jamie, 13, from Greenock tested a Ping SI 3 driver.

Right from the first shot I was hitting the ball better.

I used to slice my drives a bit with my old driver but the club was flexible and the ball went straight.

Even if I hit a bad shot it still carried. I was amazed by how much better I was driving.

If my mates were going for a new club I'd tell them to buy this one.

I'm really looking forward to using the club over the summer.

Star rating: Honestly 5/5.

So there you go - three drivers to look out for in the shops.

What is a driver?
A driver hits the ball further than any other club
It is mostly used on the tee to get as far down the fairway as possible
Most professionals can hit the ball 300 yards
Although drivers get more distance they are harder to control
Technology has made some drivers so powerful that they have been banned from professional golf
