Little Zane gets stuck in at Carnoustie
I ended up playing with Warren Bennett and a local pro Lee Thompson. I knew Warren so it was good to have someone to chat to on the way round. He had played in the Open as an amateur so that calmed me down a lot. The next thing I knew the round was finished. At the time it was just another round of golf, well it wasn't because it was the Open, but you get into it. I remember that Carnoustie was really hard that year and I was a few over after seven or eight holes. I was thinking, 'you can't be this many over at the Open, it's not on.'
But there were a couple of my mates in the crowd and they told me there were a couple of the big names that had shot high scores too. So I thought, 'well if they're struggling, I can just chill out.' It was late the first day I played something like four o'clock. It was a really long round and it was freezing cold. I had my wooly hat and waterproofs on towards the end. There was no-one there by that time just a load of my mates and my mum and dad - it was good fun, almost like my own fan club!
