McDowell's instant success
Graeme McDowell
Graeme will now play on the tour automatically.

Skipping school

More importantly for Graeme the tournament win granted him a two year exemption on the European Tour.

That means that instead of having to qualify to play in the top tournaments he gains automatic entry for a shot at making more money.

"Probably the most important thing for me was the two year exemption on the European tour," he added.

"That was my number one goal coming out of these couple of months.

"I wanted to make sure that I had somewhere to play next year and had some playing status on tour somewhere.

"To win a two year exemption was everything I dreamed of really.

"Nobody wants to go to tour school. It's widely known that it is the toughest school and the most difficult thing that any golfer goes through.

"It is golf at its purest. Everyone is trying to fight their way through to get exempt on the tour the following year.

"Everyone tries to avoid it if they possibly can, not too many people are lucky enough to avoid it and I am really pleased that I managed to do that."
