McDowell's instant success
Around the Academy:

Michael Hoey (left) and Graeme McDowell
Graeme (right) won the Walker Cup in 2001.
Winning start

Graeme's love affair with golf started at an early age and his talents were developed through competition before going on a golf scholarship to the University of Alabama.

Turning pro in the spring of 2002, he enjoyed success on the University circuit before his first European Tour vctory.

"I started playing golf when I was about eight years old, my Dad took my little brother and I to the local par three course and we got the bug pretty quickly," said Graeme.

"It is all I have wanted to do since I was 10 or 11 years old.

"I have just finished my last year at College in the USA; I was out there for three years.

"This last year I won six times and led the scoring average with 69.8, came home, turned pro and obviously it has been an incredible couple of months for me.

"Winning on just my fourth start on the European tour in Stockholm was a pretty incredible feeling."
