Teenage Korean, Jae An
Jae An (left) has now settled in New Zealand
Jae An

This 13-year-old shoolboy from Korea made history this year when he became the youngest ever male to qualify for an open professional golf tournament.

He wasn't the youngest ever though.

That was American girl, Beverley Klass, who was 10-years-old when she appeared in the 1967 US Womens Open.

An qualified for the New Zealand Open.

Not only that but he did well enough to 'survive the halfway cut .

He went on to finish at the tail-end of the field.

But his performance was far better than many observers had predicted.

Even the seemingly invincible Tiger Woods had to wait until he was 16 before he made his debut in a professional tournament.

An's performances will undoubtedly lead to a rush of offers from potential sponsors and management companies wishing to represent him.

He has also been approached to represent his adopted country, New Zealand, but remains committed to his country of birth.

He was recently a reserve member of the world champion winning secondary school squad from his adopted home of Rotorua in New Zealand's North Island.
