What is blind golf? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Nick Faldo is a huge supporter of the blind game
Blind Golf is played in exactly the same way a standard round would be played.
The main difference is that each player has a guide to tell them about each shot and to align their club. The guide can tell the player how long the hole is, what hazards there are and what type of shot is needed. Similarly a guide will help on the green with the reading of the green and the strength of the putt needed. There are competitions all over the world and an biennial World Blind Golf Championship, which is to be held in Australia in 2004. The game is run in England by the English Blind Golf Association which was only set up in 1982. "Our sport is getting bigger all the time," said former English team captain Andy Gilford. "I've recently returned from tournaments in Australia and Japan. In England, we have perhaps the biggest set-up, with a seven-event season. "The opportunities are immense. We have had a great deal of support from people such as Nick Faldo, who has given several of our players the chance to attend a coaching school."
