Introduction
The toughest shots for any goalkeeper to deal with are those low, either in the corners or sometimes close to the feet. Either way it is important for a goalkeeper to be able to get down quickly and not only save low shots, but also hold on to the ball. Practice: Working in a pair, Player A acts as a server, player B as the goalkeeper. As goalkeeper you should be positioned on the goal line with the server on the edge of the six yard box. The server should alternately pass the ball firmly to a couple of yards either side of the goalkeeper, keeping the ball on the ground. This will force the goalkeeper into collapsing the leg nearest to the ball and making a diving save. The goalkeeper should aim to save the ball and hold on to it. Lifting the upper leg into the air upon diving will help the goalkeeper to balance and enable the keeper to pivot to get back up quickly.
