The original barmy army
Around the Academy:

The Great Wall of China

In the year 200 BC many Chinese soldiers were playing a game called Tsu Chu.

Not heard of it?

It was part of the physical education programme used to train the army and involved kicking a leather ball filled with feathers and hair.

No one knows how they celebrated their goals.

Perhaps they pulled the armour over their head every time the ball flew between the bamboo poles.

An old Chinese emperor called Wudi loved the game so much that after conquering Central Asia he ordered all the good ball players to move to the capital city.

It's amazing the lengths some people will go to for the love of football.
