Gary Lineker plays in an FA Cup final for Everton in 1986
Another big stage for Gary - the FA Cup final in 1986

BBC's Gary Lineker reveals all about playing in big matches

My memories from European Championships aren't my best really!

I used to get such a buzz playing in big tournaments, when the adrenalin flows and that feeling of expectancy running onto the pitch.

In fact, it was the games when I thought no-one was watching that I used to struggle with.

There's a lot of pressure heaped on your shoulders, especially if things go wrong.

But that's what playing in a big tournament is all about - pressure!

It's the biggest chance to test your ability against the best in the world, or in this case, Europe.

It's what you dream about when you're young - to play on the biggest stage of the sport.

I rarely got nervous before a big game.

I never had any problems mentally getting ready for a game, it was always more physical for me.

I'd be sitting on the coaching thinking, "I feel stiff today" and that would cause a doubt in my mind.
