"Get the ball in the mixer and hit that onion bag"

J - JOB
Modern day footballers don't just put in a good performance, they 'do a job'.

K - KILLER GOAL or KEEP IT TIGHT
Not the best of letters, you take your pick. But remember, many goals are described as the goal that 'killed' the game...until the opposition score their next goal anyway.

L - LEFT PEG
Talented left footers are blessed with one of these. Right-footed players never have their feet described as pegs.

M - MIXER
This is that mystery zone you'll hear about when the ball is flying into the penalty area.

N - NOT OVER TIL THE FAT LADY SINGS
Matches normally end with the ref blowing the whistle, but as anybody knows, it's 'not over' until the mystery woman gets warbling.

O - ONION BAG
This thing sits behind the goal posts, hanging off the crossbar.

Nope, not a vegetable in sight, but just another description for the net.

P - POP
There are plenty of ways of describing having a 'dig', or a shot from outside the box. This is another.

And commentators - who obviously know best! - will usually announce that the shot was 'going over' as soon as it 'left the boot'.
