Who's up for a game of footy with the Kittens?
Pop band Atomic Kitten may be musical megastars but that's not their only passion in life. The Academy caught up with Liz McClarnon who revealed what her real love is and how the girls stay in shape. Who's the lucky person? It's her beloved Everton Football Club! Toffees fans haven't had it easy for the past few years, but a bright young manager and a certain Mr Rooney have made the blue side of Liverpool a whole lot happier. And Liz is loving every minute of the Everton revival.
"I can't wait for the new football season to start," she told us just before the season kicked off. "I've been lucky enough to meet Wayne Rooney and he was very, very nice - if a bit quiet. "He's really sweet and fantastic for us. He's brought a lot of publicity to Everton as well." Liz used to be a striker herself, so it's hardly surprising that Rooney is her hero. "I used to play a lot of football but I don't really have time any more. "I was a centre forward before I joined the band, but now I wouldn't be able to play for a team every week."
She may not run around the football pitch any more. But being in the band helps Liz stays fabulously fit. "We're dancing on stage every single day," says Liz. "Doing a live show - dancing and singing away for up to an hour and a half - keeps you very fit." And if Rooney continues his fine form this season, Liz could be dancing and singing from the terraces at Goodison Park!
