Cudicini loves life as a goalie!
Training should be about the basics - catching, throwing, kicking and distribution. And it's important to pay particular attention to catching the ball - something that takes excellent co-ordinatrion. That's because you need the ability to hold on to the ball in a tight situation. And of course, you have to work hard on your reflexes too. It's also a good idea to look at some of the top goalkeepers in the Premiership and copy their style.
Last season, Shay Given was fantastic and this season I think Brad Friedel and Carlo Cudicini are both outstanding and they're putting on a great show. Also, they don't seem to be flashy keepers - they are very good at the basics, and that is essential.
They might get noticed, but it's not worth letting in a goal or two in the process. I prefer a goalkeeper to do his job confidently and without any fuss. When you play in goal the aim is not to concede. To do that you have to be big, strong and organise your defence in front of you. Stay alert and be ready for anything that might happen. You have to read the game, and maintain your discipline throughout the 90 minutes. In the last minute, you can be called on to make a crucial save. They key things to remember are to communicate constantly with your defenders and remain focused at all times.
