Is a goalkeeper too old at 39?
Around the Academy:

Sport Academy investigates if you can be too old to be a goalkeeper

When should a sports star retire?

Well, England's goalkeeper David Seaman has helped his country on many occasions.

His hands have kept the world's top strikers at bay, but just 11 months short of his 40th birthday, many people want to see him hang up his gloves.

Doubts were raised after Brazil's Ronaldhino lobbed him in the World Cup quarter-final.

And after Macedonia's opening goal straight from a corner in the European Championship qualifier, perhaps Seaman's creaking bones have had enough.

Peter Shilton still played for England at 41. Italian keeper Dino Zoff was 40 when he became the oldest player to lift the World Cup in 1982.

So the Sport Academy thought it time to investigate if age really does hold a player back.

Goalkeeping legend Dave Beasant won the FA Cup in 1988 against all the odds for Wimbledon and is still playing at the age of 43.

He reveals to the Academy his utmost support for David Seaman and is living proof that age is no barrier.

And one of the country's top physiologists explains that anything is possible as long as you look after yourself.
