How to play off the front foot
Around the Academy:

Matthew Hayden and Sachin Tendulkar are brilliant on their front foots

Whenever you see players like Sachin Tendulkar or Michael Vaughan unleash a trademark straight drive, you know you've seen something very special.

Most front foot shots are played to good length deliveries. This means they are usually pitched well up to the batsman.

With a little help from the Academy, you'll be a front foot master like Tendulkar and Vaughany!


FRONT FOOT DEFENCE
The most important shot a batsman should learn to keep their wicket

Top hand v bottom hand
When it comes to front foot strokes, the top hand should the one in control
A stronger top hand will help the keep the ball along the ground
The bottom hand provides the power, but it should be relaxed for most front foot shots
In one-day cricket, the bottom hand provides the power for the lofted drives over cover and mid-wicket
