Alec Stewart the model pro!
Around the Academy:

Alec Stewart has less body fat than a supermodel, apparently!
When it comes to adding a bit of glamour to selling something its always the pretty girls that the advertising people turn to for help.

The likes of Naomi Campbell and Jodie Kidd will always be more in demand than the England cricket team.

However, research from leading sports science agency, SAQ, could soon see the offers rolling in for Alec Stewart.

Ok, maybe not! But the fact that England's 40-year-old wicketkeeper has less body fat than a supermodel is just one of the findings from the work.

Nasser is harder than Becks
Nasser is harder than Becks

If you're going to make it as a Test cricketer it proves you can't be tucking in too heavily to the cakes and sarnies at tea time.

The research was commissioned by Test match sponsor npower.

And it revealed some interesting facts about the power, energy and performance of the England squad.

If you thought it was difficult for a goalkeeper to react to a David Beckham free-kick then think of a fielder trying to stop a Nasser Hussain hook shot.

Not only is the ball smaller, but Hussain is also able to generate 28% more power with his bat than Becks' trusty right foot.

You wouldn't normally draw too many comparisons between paceman Steve Harmison and the space shuttle - and why would you?

That's NASA's shuttle, not Nasser's

But deliveries from the Durham quickie accelerate faster than the shuttle at blast off.

And you won't find too many batsmen taking on the arm of Michael Vaughan in the field this summer.

The Yorkshireman can throw the ball quicker than a cheetah running at full flight.

So next time you doubt the fitness and capabilities of the top cricketers, remember these stats.

Other notable findings
Alec Stewart's muscles react faster to the ball than electricity travels around a household circuit.
Indian bowler Zaheer Khan will jump the equivalent height of six electricity pylons during a Test.
The reflexes of Andrew Flintoff when batting are quicker than high-speed e-mail.
