Fancy being a hoops pro? | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

You get the ball, leave the defence for dead, leap into the air and ram the ball home to secure another trophy. The crowd go wild and you're a superstar basketball champ. Fancy a bit of that? The opportunities are out there but you've got to work for it.
Some of you may have enjoyed a hoops summer camp (perhaps some of you went to the one I run in Manchester?) All the camps are brilliant fun but they won't help you advance that much. Being a pro is all about your on-going development - picking up valuable tips and skills. Here's how you do it:
Teams give players regular try-outs so just show up. And get hold of a decent mentor or teacher
But if you're serious, the quicker you find somewhere to play the better
There will be teams for all ages. So learn to search around and check every source. You can get contact details for the British clubs from the Academy or the BBL.
Wherever you are, whoever you're playing for, always try and find new levels. Don't get comfortable
I started playing when I was 17 for a low league team called Man United. Honestly! And now I'm in the NBA.
Playing overseas is also an option. You can combine it with your studies. I've played in Greece, England and America. I played for a high school team in the USA when I was 18.
The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) provides details on the American opportunities for boys and girls.
Wherever you play, these are the three things that will help you achieve your goals So aim high and GO FOR IT! Let us know what YOU think.
