John Amaechi reveals all to the Sport Academy

There are 29 teams that make up the NBA but how they work out who plays who is a little complicated so follow closely.

The league is split into two conferences - the Eastern and Western - and these are again divided up.

There is the Atlantic and Central division in the Eastern conference and the Midwest and Pacific in the Western.

Each team in each conference plays each other four times and they play teams from the other conference twice.

World champs

That's a total of 82 games. The top four in each division go through to the play-offs and then it's a knock out competition between the 16 teams.

The final is then played over seven matches.

And hey presto, the winners become the so-called world champions.

There are a few subtle differences to the European leagues, such as fouls, but essentially the game is exactly the same.

And what a game it is.
