Hi, I'm Jo Ankier and I'm one of Britain's top steeplechasers. This is my guide.
The 3,000m steeplechase is seven-and-a-half laps of endurance running, with four hurdles and a water jump on every lap.
Watch my masterclass:
There are three key areas to work on:
- Endurance - It's really important to build up your endurance by doing lots of long runs and track sessions. Seven-and-half laps is a long way if you haven't trained enough.
- Hurdles - A good hurdling technique will get you a long way, so make sure you work on this two or three times a week - and don't forget that water jump.
- Mental toughness - It's a long way to run with obstacles all around the route, so make sure you're mentally prepared and fully focused.
