|Sport Academy review 2004: Athletics|
|Around the Academy:
The sporting reviews just keep on coming. The sport in the spotlight this time is athletics.
So it's over to our reviewer Laura, 12, from Aberdeen.
How did your interest in athletics begin?
I have the Olympics to thank for me taking up the sport. I was so inspired watching all the action from Athens that I went out and joined a club.
Which events do you compete in?
I compete in multi events. I'm at the stage of aiming for over 2200 points so Carolina Kluft had better watch out!
What are your personal goals within the sport?
My goals are to improve and go on to win national competitions.
Who's your favourite athlete? Why?
Can I have two? Then it would have to be Swedish heptathlete Carolina Kluft and South African high jumper Hestrie Cloete.
They are incredibly consistent and never give up. Technically they are amazing too!
What is the best thing you saw this season?
Kelly Holmes winning her two gold medals would have to be right up there. For me she was the star of the Olympics.
But I also really enjoyed watching Kelly Sotherton claim her bronze medal in the heptathlon - so very close to the silver too.
How good is Kelly Holmes? Thoughts on her winning Sport Personality?
Kelly Homes is amazing and thoroughly deserved the award. She's fab!
Did anything disappoint you about the athletics season this year? Why?
I was a bit disappointed with Daniel Caines. He showed so much promise but the results weren't there. I just hope it was an off season.
What are you looking forward to in the 2005 athletics calendar?
I am personally looking forward to competing again in the new season.
But can't wait to watch the Athletics World Championships which take place in Helsinki, Finland in August.
Thanks for your review Laura, it was spot on!
