Is the next Paula Radcliffe waiting to be discovered?
Which young star will take the world by storm this year? The Sport Academy looks at two contenders.
Jonathan Moore (long jump and triple jump) As the son of Aston Moore, one of Britain's greatest ever triple jumpers, there was only ever one career for Jonathan!
The 17-year-old from Birmingham jumped 16.32 metres in the triple jump in May 2001, and broke the British long jump record at the same event with a leap of 8.03m.
But it hasn't all been plain sailing. He suffered a serious injury to his knee during that record-breaking jump, and hasn't been able to compete since. But Jonathan is on the comeback trail, and hopes that 2003 will see him make a triumphant return to action. We wish him well!
Gemma Nichol (4x400m relay) At 16 years old, Gemma has already had a taste of life as a senior athlete. Last summer, she became the youngest athlete ever picked to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Games!
Gemma also competed in the 400m at the Scottish Championships and the AAA under-20 championships in 2002, finishing second in both events. Dont' forget to watch Gemma get back on track in 2003!
