Keep dreaming those goals | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fancy being a golden wonder like Ashia?
If you're thinking about taking up athletics, what I would say is "don't specialise too early". And for you younger ones out there interested in the triple jump, I'd say "hold on". Have a dabble in it, but it's so physically demanding that it would be much better to wait and try other events. Try as many things as you can - even race walking. Have a go and make sure you get someone to teach you properly.
You can then make your decision after seeing what you enjoy the most. Some people decide to be a full-time athlete, thinking they will be supported by the lottery funding. But it often doesn't work out like that. It may not seem important at the moment but your studies or your job will help you develop as a person. If you are good enough and determined enough, you will make it in the end. So stick with it, even if things get a little hard for you. You never know what will happen. And who knows? It could be you up on that podium soon.
