A 38,000 crowd keep an eye on Ashia in Manchester
To be any good in any sport you've got to be prepared to put in plenty of work. And that means a few early mornings, but I'm one of the lucky ones who gets up easily. I don't even need an alarm. Training doesn't sound like too much fun but I really enjoy it. It's the only way of getting better. Think of it as a challenge. It's a case of learning all the time and I'm sure most athletes would agree. You don't get to a certain age and think you know it all.
There will always be something to improve upon right until you retire. You will never become the perfect athlete. I'm still learning about the event and there's a long way to go yet. Knowing you will be competing in front of a crowd - especially a home crowd - at the end of it all, makes you realise it is all worthwhile. All the effort you put into the training just to jump six rounds of a competition is brilliant. You just forget about the hard work and all the tears. The competition is the icing on the cake.
