The aim of golf is to hit a small ball into a hole with the fewest possible blows from a blunt instrument. 18 times! Unlike other sports, one’s real enemy is never one’s opponent but oneself and more importantly, one’s surroundings. That is one reason why the game has managed to keep a sense of sportsmanship at its heart - because even at the highest level golfers are united in their battle against the course as much as each other. Still, not everyone is convinced. 'A good walk spoiled' is how it was described by American writer Mark Twain.
