Pete cranks up the power

The athletes have done so well. Not only to make it to the final but to recuperate at a high level between events so they can perform.
It's been an interesting journey since we first tested them and set them their training programmes.
Some improved massively while others didn't.
And we've learnt a lot about them since they've come to Austria in response to the events.
It's quite interesting to watch somebody do the events and think, 'hold on you shouldn't be good at that but you are.'
Or the other way round, 'you should be winning this but you're not.'
But those are the ups and downs of elite competition.
I remain convinced that the whole competition has served up the best eight athletes for the final show.
Highlights for me have been some of the unusual performers.
Channelle did outstandingly well in the Iron Run. She took a lot of weight and ran quickly for someone who has not got great cardiovascular fitness.

Sam has a lot of different skills in her locker

She must have used up a lot of her reserves and it must have hurt.
Other things like Garth and Cat not doing well in Bench Step. Their legs meant that the steps were proportionally the smallest for them.
Then Cat should have done well in Launch Pad, while Garth was beaten by Pete in The Crank. Which is amazing.
It's easy to overlook regular outstanding performances like Louise and Tom, but they've been by far the strongest point scorers across all of the shows.
That's because they are naturally powerful athletes and can pick up technical skills very quickly.
Sam has a lot of different skills in her locker but Louise is special. Tom is almost like a combined version of the pair.
