Denmark carried their impressive qualifying record into the World Cup to take Group A by storm.
As everyone was looking for France to carry off the honours with the rest scrapping for second, Denmark came up on the blindside.
And their final group game put the final nail in the coffin of France’s efforts. It was a highly impressive performance and Jon Dahl Tomasson was a revelation leading the line.
He scored in all the group games, finding the back of the net four times in total. All Newcastle fans must have been rubbing their eyes in disbelief at what they were seeing.
But after the high of the win over France, following victory against Uruguay and a draw with the other group qualifiers Senegal, came the low of the England match.
They never got going and were two goals down before they even had the chance to get warmed up properly. It was a disappointing end to their campaign… although I wasn’t complaining!
Did you know? Denmark's defeat to England was the first time that they have failed to score a goal in a World Cup match. It was their unlucky 13th appearance.
