It was a shame to see Costa Rica depart the tournament so early because they were one of the more enterprising teams in the group stage.
Costa Rica contributed much to one of the best games in the tournament as they went out in a blaze of glory with a 5-2 defeat against Brazil.
It was like watching Brazil… attacking at both ends of the pitch! Maybe that was naive of Costa Rica since they only needed a draw to go through.
You can tell I've spent a long time with Alan Hansen recently because I thought the defending was shocking at times in that match.
At the other end though the forward play was delightful. Paolo Wanchope enhanced his reputation and I'd be surprised if clubs didn't try to lure his strike partner, Ronald Gomez, from his present club in Crete.
Only goal difference kept Costa Rica out of the second round and they returned home with pride intact.
