Swedish defenders Patrik Andersson and Johan Mjallby could join striker Henrik Larsson and quit international football.
Larsson, 30, announced his retirement immediately after the defeat by Senegal in extra-time, and now team captain Andersson and vice-captain Mjallby could follow suit.
"I am deeply disappointed, and this could have been my last match for Sweden," Mjallby said to Expressen in the aftermath of the loss to a golden goal.
"That's how I feel now. I will think about it for a few days, and then I'll make my decision know to the coaches."
Mjallby became captain when Barcelona's Andersson injured himself during shooting practice in the days leading up to the opening game against England.
The Celtic stopper proved to be one of Sweden's most consistent players in the World Cup.
He has now featured in 40 matches for the national team.
Meanwhile, captain Andersson launched a stinging attack on the Swedish team after they exited the World Cup.
"The fact is that we're not trying for another goal to kill the game off," he told TV4 from his home in Barcelona, where he returned a few days ago.
"Football is all about titles. We did okay in the group phase, but we should have beaten Senegal."
Newspaper Dagens Nyheter believes the comments signifies Andersson's departure from the team.
"It's hard to see a future for a team captain who leaves during a World Cup, no matter how serious his injury is," it said.
