Thabo Mngomeni

Club: Orlando Pirates
Position: Midfielder

Mngomeni's performance in any one game can vary from the sublime to the ridiculous.

An example of the former came when he somersaulted before smashing a half-volley to score at club level.

The latter was typified by a rash challenge which led to a penalty in the African Nations Cup qualifier back in 1999 against Gabon.

Three years on, his inconsistencies remain a prominent part of his game.

Off the field he is renowned as a relaxed individual, while recently he was banned for six months for attacking a referee.

Mngomeni chose football but could have had a future as a Test cricketer.
