David Connolly

Club: Wimbledon
Position: Forward

The 24-year-old's ambitions are unlikely to be fulfilled with the Irish squad in Korea and Japan, despite a strong season at club level.

He averaged a goal every other game in the league and recaptured some of the form he showed at Watford.

But the former Hornet, who had a spell at Dutch side Feyenoord, lacks the same international potential of Clinton Morrison, Niall Quinn and Robbie Keane.

He has ample upper body strength and a clinical strike but one goal in six qualifying appearances will do little to send fear into opponents.
