Steve Staunton

Club: Aston Villa
Position: Defender

Staunton's pace down the left flank belies his 33 years and once again the Irish defender ought to trouble opposition attackers and defenders.

The 2002 tournament will be his third World Cup and he is fast approaching his 100th cap as an international.

While still a strong performer in defence, he is also one of a number of Irish internationals to boast an impressive free-kick.

His leadership qualities are another major boost to his side and he looks likely to marshal the Irish defence.
