Nuno Gomes

Club: Fiorentina
Position: Forward

Nuno Gomes was a sensation at Euro 2000, after scoring four goals and narrowly missing out on the Golden Boot award.

But he hit the headlines when he was sent off during the controversial finale to the semi-final against France.

His exploits - the goalscoring ones - attracted the attentions of Serie A side Fiorentina in Italy who paid 12.5m for his services after the European Championships.

He was in good form for Portugal during the World Cup qualifiers.

One of the highlights was a stunning hat-trick in just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute in the 7-1 victory over Andorra.
