Diego Gavilan

Club: Newcastle United
Position: Midfielder

Diego Gavilan became and remains the only Paraguayan playing in England when he joined Newcastle United in the midst of the 2000 season for 1m.

Since then, he has failed to find a place in the starting line-up but still keeps his best performances for the national side.

He carries the nickname "Sparrowhawk" and is arguably one of Paraguay's most gifted performers with great speed and a strong attacking mentality.

Still only 22, he made his debut against Bolivia back in June 1999 while at his only other professional club - Cerro Porteno.
