Marco Materazzi

Club: Internazionale
Position: Defender

Everton fans never saw the best of Marco Materazzi when he became the first Italian to play for the Goodison Park club in the 1998/99 season.

Materazzi, who joined the Toffees for £2.8m from Perugia, failed to settle in England.

He lasted just one season in the Premiership before returning to Italy with his former club for £3m.

At the start of last season he joined Inter where his consistent performances throughout this campaign have seen him become a regular in Giovanni Trapattoni's squad.

The World Cup will be Materazzi's first major tournament with the Azzurri - he was not a part of the squad in either France 98 or Euro 2000.
