Totti tips Italy for success

Francesco Totti has warned Italy's World Cup opponents that his team's best is yet to come.

Totti was in inspired form during Italy's comfortable 2-0 win over Ecuador in their opening game on Monday.

And the stylish playmaker - who is nearing full fitness after a two-month injury lay-off - is backing his side to go on to win the World Cup.

" After Euro 2000 I want to prove myself to the world with a win "
Francesco Totti

"I haven't seen many matches but Italy shouldn't fear anyone because we can go all the way," said Totti.

"I am not at full power yet, but I am well, physically and mentally well, that is the important thing for a player."

Totti admitted that the defeat to France in the Euro 2000 final was an extra motivating factor for him to succeed at this World Cup.

"After Euro 2000 I want to prove myself to the world with a win," he added.

"I think I have done well in Europe, in the Champions League and in those European Championships, and I have gained a bit more consideration outside Italy."

Italy coach Giovanni Trapattoni may decide to play Totti in a withdrawn role against Croatia on Saturday.

"Maybe the coach will want to change something but I am happy whatever role I play - I hope to be in full form," said Totti.

"I definitely like to play behind the two forwards but the important thing is to play.

"Trapattoni has a lot of forwards and can choose whatever formation he wants."
