Christoph Metzelder

Club: Borussia Dortmund
Position: Defender

At the end of the 1999/2000 season, Metzelder was languishing in the German third division with Preussen Munster.

Now he is arguably one of Europe's most promising young defenders and has been one of Germany's star performers in the Far East.

A Borussia Monchengladbach fan, he opted to join Dortmund after meeting with club coach Matthias Sammer and in a bid to earn himself an international call-up.

Metzelder is both tall and quick and should be an asset whether in the starting line-up or on the bench.
