Lilian Thuram

Club: Juventus
Position: Defender

Juventus knew what they were doing when they paid Parma 22m for one of the best defenders in the world in 2001.

Tactically sound and defensively strong, Thuram is also capable of surging forward on a regular basis.

To France's benefit, with Lizarazu on the left, Thuram ensures Les Bleus have an attacking outlet on both sides of the pitch.

He rarely gets among the goals himself, but is famous for his two-goal salvo against Croatia in the last World Cup when he turned the semi-final on its head.
