Nicky Butt

Club: Manchester United
Position: Midfielder

Tough-tackling central midfielder who is rated highly by Sven-Goran Eriksson.

When all their players are fit, England have a strong midfield which is likely to keep Butt on the bench.

However, he is certainly a useful squad player as he has proved at Old Trafford where he has always answered the call with the minimum of fuss.

During the friendly with Paraguay he brought plenty of bite to the midfield.

And after recovering from an injury sustained prior to the tournament, Butt returned to the starting line up for his team's World Cup match against Argentina and was in brilliant form during the 1-0 victory.
