Teddy Sheringham

Club: Tottenham Hotspur
Position: Forward

Struck a crucial goal with his first touch after coming on as substitute in the final World Cup qualifier against Greece.

The 36-year-old has struggled for form in the latter half of the season but he still offers a different dimension to the England side with his vision and guile.

With the other forwards in Sven-Goran Eriksson's squad much younger, the manager needs someone with the intelligence and experience of life on the biggest stage.

Sheringham peaked during Euro 96 and was also a member of Glenn Hoddle's squad at the last World Cup.

Has experienced life up against the best defenders in the world during his time in European competition with Manchester United.

Scored their crucial equaliser against Bayern Munich in the 1999 Champions League final and was also on the mark in that year's FA Cup final as United collected the Treble.

Was voted PFA Player of the Year for 2000/01 before signing for his former club Tottenham.
