Paul Scholes

Club: Manchester United
Position: Midfielder

The most prolific midfield goalscorer in the squad and a key weapon in Eriksson's armoury.

Scored a crucial goal in Albania during qualifying but then gave his worst international performance against Greece at Old Trafford.

Less spectacular than the likes of David Beckham and Michael Owen but perhaps just as important to the squad.

Combines hard work with technical excellence, he gets forward with boundless energy but is responsible enough not to neglect his defensive role.
