Nigel Martyn

Club: Leeds United
Position: Goalkeeper

At the top of his game, Martyn is an almost unbeatable goalkeeper.

Agile and athletic, he is a magnificent shot-stopper and confident on crosses.

Unfortunately he seems to reserve his rare mistakes for the times when he pulls on his England jersey.

Was criticised for goals in the friendlies against Holland and Sweden prior to the World Cup.

Nevertheless, he looked safe in his 45-minute appearance against Italy this February and is mentally tough enough not to let the snipers get at him.

Became the first 1m goalkeeper in Britain when he left Bristol Rovers for Crystal Palace in 1989 where he stayed for seven years before his move to Leeds.
