Gomez: My boys are tired

Ecuador coach Hernan Dario Gomez says his players are tired after so many friendly games and that rest is now what is needed.

Ecuador could only draw 1-1 with Kyoto Purple Sanga on Sunday, despite the return of striker Agustin Delgado to the side.

"The players are clearly tired, but that is inevitable after so many matches," Gomez told reporters. "The team is without spark."

The coach added that he plans to focus on "tactical exercises" in training this week ahead of their World Cup debut against Italy on 3 June in Sapporo.

The weekend friendly had been worthwhile, Gomez said, because he was able to look at several players returning from injury, Delgado in particular.

Ecuador lost 1-0 to Senegal last week.
