Delgado returns but Ecuador held

Kyoto Purple Sanga 1-1 Ecuador

Ecuador suffered mixed fortunes in their latest warm-up game in Japan.

Striker Agustin Delgado made his comeback from injury in the match with Kyoto Purple Sanga in Kobe.

But after veteran midfielder Alex Aguinaga had put the South American side in front, Kyoto hit back and held them to a 1-1 draw.

Aguinaga, who plays for Necaxa of the Mexican First Division, scored with a spectacular bicycle kick from an Edison Mendez corner.

"That was one my best goals ever, and now I hope to score others during the World Cup," the 34-year-old said.

Two of Ecuador's Group G opponents, Mexico and Croatia, produced more impressive results.

Mexico secured a 2-0 victory over Tokyo Verdy.

Goals from Braulio Luna and Francsico Palencia gave them a comfortable workout as they proved too strong for their J-League opponents.

Croatia claimed an easy 4-0 win over a select side from Toyama Prefecture clubs.
