Hernan Medford

Club: Necaxa
Position: Forward

Hernan Medford's goal against Sweden during Italia 90 assured him of his place in Costa Rican footballing folklore.

It secured his side's place in the second round, a remarkable feat considering their other group rivals were Scotland and Brazil.

Ageing limbs mean that, at 34, Medford will be used sparingly this time around.

However, his experience will be of huge benefit to manager Alexander Guimaraes who will be comforted by the fact that he can always call on Medford if his side are in need of a goal.

Now with Necaxa in Mexico, Medford has actually played in Serie A, when he joined Foggia way back in 1992.
